Most commonly asked questions

The Book of Mormon begins with the account of a family living in Jerusalem about 600 years before the birth of Christ. After being warned by God, they flee Jerusalem to escape the destruction of the city. They travel across the sea to settle a promised land in the ancient Americas. The people later split into two nations called the Nephites and the Lamanites, and God's dealings with these peoples are described.

The crowning event of the Book of Mormon is the personal ministry of the resurrected Savior, Jesus Christ, to the people of ancient Americas. The Book of Mormon clearly explains the teachings of Jesus Christ and his Gospel, and explains how we can have joy in this life and receive salvation in the life to come.

Those who wrote the Book of Mormon were prophets who lived in ancient America. These prophets recorded their history, prophecies, and teachings on bound metal plates. These records were then summarized and abridged by a prophet and historian named Mormon.

After Mormon's death, his son Moroni completed the records, God then told Moroni to bury the records and promised him, that they would one day be brought out again to be shared with the world.

In the early 19th century, these promises were fulfilled. God had called the prophet, named Joseph Smith, to translate the records of the Nephites and the Lamamites into the english language. He translated the plates over a duration of time and published the Book of Mormon in the Spring of 1830 and is now made avaible for all to read in over 110+ languages.

Absolutely not! The Book of Mormon is "another testament of Jesus Christ" and thus goes hand in hand with the Bible in testifying the divinity of Jesus Christ. Both describe God's dealings with people in different parts of the world and teach the same principles that God's love is universal.

These sets of holy scripture contain thousands of years of inspiration, guidance, and instruction designed to help us in our day! Both the Bible and Book of Mormon are written with the purpose of drawing all people closer to Jesus Christ, in order to find more peace and happiness in life.

The Bible states, "By the mouth of two or three witnesses every word is confirmed" (2 Corinthians 13:1). In accordance with this law, both the Book of Mormon and the Bible bear powerful witness to Jesus Christ.

By studying both the Book of Mormon and the Bible, you will better understand who God is and the blessings and joy He wants for you.

You may ask: If I already have the Bible, why do I need more scripture?

An important purpose of the Book of Mormon is that God reveals truth to His children on earth and always does. The Bible contains revelations of God written by prophets, but it does not contain everything God has ever said or will ever say. Even today He reveals His will to living prophets and apostles (Ephesians 2:20). The Book of Mormon shows that God speaks to all His children on earth and in all ages.

The Book of Mormon can also help explain and understand Bible passages. For example, the New Testament states that Christ was baptized to "fulfill all righteousness" (Matthew 3:14-15). The Book of Mormon explains what it means to fulfill all righteousness (2 Nephi 31:5-9). This and more examples show how the Book of  Mormon and the Bible work hand-in-hand. The Book of Mormon is also valuable because of the teachings from prophets and teachers, some of who directly were ministered by Christ shortly after his resurrection.

There is only one way to find out if the Book of Mormon is true: by confirmation of the Holy Spirit.

As said in the introduction of the Book of Mormon, "We invite all men everywhere to read the Book of Mormon, to ponder in their hearts the message it contains, and then to ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ if the book is true. Those who pursue this course and ask in faith will gain a testimony of its truth and divinity by the power of the Holy Ghost. (See Moroni 10:3–5.)

Those who gain this divine witness from the Holy Spirit will also come to know by the same power that Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world, that Joseph Smith is His revelator and prophet in these last days, and that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the Lord’s kingdom once again established on the earth, preparatory to the Second Coming of the Messiah."
