Man-Who-Thinks-About-The-Meaning-of-Life

Before this life, you lived with God in heaven as a spirit. You aren't exactly like Him, but you have the potential to become divine like Him. You are destined to return to live with Him again. To become more like God, we needed the experience of living a mortal life with a physical body. In order to accomplish this, God created a perfect plan that you understood and accepted before you came to earth. God created us in His image and sent us to earth.

"So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them."

-Genesis 1:27

The purpose of life on earth is to prepare to one day live with God. God has given you agency - the ability to decide for yourself - and you should use that gift to follow Christ's example.

"For behold, this life is the time for men to prepare to meet God; yea, behold the day of this life is the day for men to perform their labors."

- Alma 34:32, The Book of Mormon

What is the Book of Mormon?

Life is full of opposites. We need opposition to experience both sides. Suffering is necessary in our lives so that we can feel joy.

Life is full of ups and downs, but it's in the lowest moments that you can grow the most. If you turn to God in these times of sorrow, He can turn these difficult experiences into good and ultimately help you realize your potential so that you receive all the joy He has in store for you.

Jesus Christ overcame both physical and spiritual death. Three days after his crucifixion, his spirit and body were reunited eternally. We call this the resurrection.

You have an imperfect body and will die one day. But, we don't need to fear death. It is an important part of God's plan for you. Jesus Christ was the first to overcome physical death and rise from the dead. Because Jesus Christ was resurrected, we will all be resurrected as well.

Kingsley 21, Gießen

"I know we need Jesus Christ in our lives, because none of us humans have survived this world yet. Jesus loves you and conquered life so that you and I can look to Him and follow His example. There are many paths you can take, but how you travel them is what matters. We need Jesus because without Him we are lost in our search for the way back to God."

"Jesus answered him, 'I am the way and the truth and the life; no one comes to the Father except through me.'

- Johannes 14:16
When He hung on the cross and died, Christ also overcame spiritual death "that men may be brought into the presence of the Lord" (Helaman 14:15, The Book of Mormon). Sin prevents us from returning to God's presence, but thanks to Jesus Christ we can repent and be worthy to live with God again.

How can I repent and receive forgiveness?

Even though Christ has conquered physical death, all people must die. Death is an essential part of God's plan and is nothing to be afraid of.

When you die, your spirit separates from your body and goes to the spirit world. You will stay there until you are resurrected.

After you are resurrected, you will be brought into God's presence to be judged. You will remember all of your deeds on earth, both the good and the bad. But if you repent, God will show you mercy.

There is more than "heaven" or "hell". God loves you and all His children and wants us to be happy. That' s why he has provided three kingdoms of glory in heaven in which his children will be placed according to their earthly desires and deeds.

Your eternal goal is to live again with your heavenly Father and enjoy eternal life. This means that your goal on this earth should be to do everything you can to prepare for eternal life.

If you learn to believe in Jesus Christ and rely on His grace, you will become more and more like Him and can one day attain eternal life with God and your family.

Summary

God's plan of salvation teaches us where we came from, why we are here on earth, and where we will go after this life. It describes our eternal journey through pre-mortal life, mortal life, death, resurrection and our life in eternity. God's plan also focuses on the mission and atonement of Jesus Christ, who overcame the effects of the fall of Adam and thus made eternal life and exaltation possible for us. It also explains what our loving Father in heaven does to help us succeed in this journey so that we can return to His presence and become like Him.

There are many more aspects of this plan that are not explained here. Will members of other religions also be saved? What about those who died before they could hear about Christ? How does this apply to my family and me? Questions like these are important and valuable, and we have hundreds of volunteers to help you find those answers. Contact volunteers in your area to learn how you can begin or continue your spiritual journey to Christ.
